【国際交流】タイの名門・マヒドン大学から未来の理学療法士が見学に来られました！

先日、運動器ケア しまだ病院とEudynamics ヴィゴラスに、タイの最高峰の医療系総合大学であるマヒドン大学（Mahidol University）から、理学療法学科の4回生2名が施設見学に来られました。

現在4年生の二人は、帰国後に理学療法士の国家試験を控えている大切な時期。

そんな彼らが、将来の進路として熱い視線を注いでいるのが「整形外科・運動器リハビリテーション」の分野です。

今回の見学を通じて、私たちはタイの医療事情、そしてこれからのアジアにおける「運動器ケア」の可能性について、新たな視点を得る素晴らしい機会を得ました。

タイの医療と聞くと、観光を兼ねた「医療ツーリズム」や最先端の高度医療を思い浮かべる方も多いかもしれません。

しかし今、タイの国内では大きな変化が起きています。

急速な都市化やデスクワークの増加に伴い、「オフィスシンドローム」と呼ばれる深刻な慢性痛（肩こり、腰痛など）に悩む若者・壮年層が急増しているのです。さらに、スポーツカルチャーの発展に伴うケガの予防・復帰、そして日本をも上回るスピードで進む高齢化社会への対応など、タイにおける「運動器リハビリ」の需要は、かつてないほど高まっています。

彼らが通うマヒドン大学は、タイで最初に理学療法教育をスタートさせた、まさにリハビリ界のパイオニアであり名門校。

そこで最先端の理論を学ぶ二人だからこそ、これからのタイに本当に必要なのは、単なる病気の治療にとどまらない、「身体を動かす機能そのものを守り、高めるリハビリ」だと確信しているようでした。

見学中、二人が特に目を輝かせていたのが、しまだ病院の医療リハビリから、ヴィゴラスでのメディカルフィットネスへと繋がる「一連の流れ」です。

急性期の治療や術後のサポートはもちろん、退院した後の「日常生活、あるいはスポーツ現場への完全復帰」までをシームレスにサポートする仕組み。

そして、医師と理学療法士、トレーナーが密に連携して一人ひとりの「動き（Movement）」を評価し、アプローチする体制に、二人は熱心にメモを取り、質問を投げかけてくれました。

見学の最後には、これから控える国家試験に向けたエールを送り、お互いの未来の医療現場を支え合う約束を交わしました。

しまだ病院・ヴィゴラスは、地域の皆さんの健康を守る場所であると同時に、こうして世界から集まる未来の医療人が「日本の、大阪の医療ってすごい！面白い！」と感じ、学びを持ち帰ってもらえるようなオープンな場所であり続けたいと考えています。

遠いタイの地で、彼らが国家試験を突破し、素晴らしい理学療法士として羽ばたく日を心から応援しています。

そして私たちも、彼らに負けないよう、常に進化を続けながら日々の診療とサポートに向き合っていきます！

We recently had the pleasure of welcoming two inspiring guests to Shimada Hospital (Orthopedic and Musculoskeletal Care) and Eudynamics Vigorous: final-year physical therapy students from Mahidol University, Thailand’s top-tier medical and research university.

As seniors, both students are currently at a crucial turning point, preparing for their national board exams upon returning home. Yet, they turned their eyes toward the future, expressing a passionate interest in the field of orthopedics and musculoskeletal rehabilitation.

This visit was an incredible opportunity for us as well. Engaging with them gave us fresh insights into the current healthcare landscape in Thailand and the immense potential of musculoskeletal care across Asia.

When many people think of healthcare in Thailand, “medical tourism” or cutting-edge, high-end surgeries often come to mind. However, the domestic healthcare reality is shifting dramatically.
With rapid urbanization and the rise of desk jobs, there has been a surge in younger and working-age people suffering from severe chronic pain (such as neck, shoulder, and back pain), a phenomenon locally dubbed “Office Syndrome.” Furthermore, the boom in sports culture has amplified the need for injury prevention and safe return-to-sport programs. Combined with an aging population that is progressing even faster than Japan’s, the demand for musculoskeletal rehabilitation in Thailand is higher than ever before.
As students of Mahidol University—the pioneer institution that launched Thailand’s very first physical therapy program—they are learning the latest theories in the field. It was inspiring to see how convinced they are that what Thailand truly needs next is not just disease treatment, but rehabilitation that protects and enhances functional movement.

During the tour, their eyes truly lit up when they observed our integrated ecosystem: the seamless transition from medical rehabilitation at Shimada Hospital to medical fitness at Eudynamics Vigorous.
They were deeply impressed by our system, which supports patients from acute post-surgery care all the way back to their daily lives or full sports performance. Watching our doctors, physical therapists, and trainers work in lockstep to assess and improve each individual’s movement, the students took detailed notes and asked brilliant questions.

We wrapped up the visit by cheering them on for their upcoming board exams and promising to support each other as future colleagues in global healthcare.
While Shimada Hospital and Vigorous exist primarily to protect the health of our local community, we also strive to be an open, inspiring hub for global talent. We want future healthcare leaders from around the world to visit us in Osaka and think, “Wow, Japanese healthcare is incredible and innovative!” before bringing that knowledge home.
We are rooting for them from afar as they conquer their national exams and spread their wings as exceptional physical therapists in Thailand. Their energy has inspired us to keep evolving and pushing the boundaries of our own daily care!
